Studio 303 revisits its beloved cabaret roots with an unconventional evening of visionary tantrums hosted by the unstoppable Peaches Lepage (Jordan Arseneault). Our inaugural edition in 2014 sprang from a response to recent years of erratic funding behaviour by Canadian Heritage, and the troubling climate of austerity in general. In 2015, Studio 303 invites 9 radically undisciplined artists to inhabit the Sala Rossa for an evening of the rad, the mad, and the tired-of-being-had.
This electric line-up of seasoned and emerging performers reveals a diversity of strategies and issues that have life far beyond the stage. Familiar faces Alexis O’Hara, Helen Simard and Hannah Morrow are combined with 303-virgins such as Antonio Bavaro, Morgan M Page, Dr. Tara Atluri and Soleil Launière & Rasili Botz. Video by Danielle Peers & Melisa Brittain and dj-set by Lido Pimienta round out a program of works that address issues ranging from missing and murdered Indigenous women, government transparency, oil sands extraction & HIV transmission, dis/ability stigma, hijabiphobia in neo-liberalism and sex work criminalization. The evening will begin with a silent auction where already more than 45 exciting items from our supporters will be up for grabs. Bidders can expect awesome deals with the added value of helping Studio 303 compensate for our ever-shrinking funding pools and the loss of support from Canadian Heritage since 2013.
